Founding Skeptics: Revolutionaries with Clear Eyes
National office will dwindle down to the unhealthily singleminded (Clinton, Obama), the timeserving emirs of Incumbistan (Biden, McCain) and dynastic heirs (Bush). Our loss. Mark Steyn, expressing Hepatomanticism with trenchant sting.
I looked up 'hepatomantic'. Couldn't find it in the online dictionary, but it obviously has something to do with the liver, or blood. Steyn probably means something like sanguine, as in grouchy, or even maudlin. For now, I'm going with maudlin. He's referring, of course, to Sarah Palin's latest weirdness. Time Out or Flame Out?
Good one, Steyn!
I've found myself hepatomantic of late -- say, the last 30 years or so -- because I've convinced myself that Americans have evolved into the kind of people who are impressed when a young black man calls himself a "community organizer."
A what?
Look, if you're impressed with that, your IQ couldn't be much more than 30 or 40. What kind of person looks for leadership from a "community organizer"? There can only be one answer:
A dumb ass.
Happy Birthday, America!
