Call us what you will, but Cicero and I wrote-off America 30 years ago.  We could see what was coming, i.e., the people we saw from urban areas exemplified what we discussed in From Citizens to 'Stakeholders'.  Is there room for optimism?  More on that in a moment

The polls have been clear for quite some time: By a substantial margin, Americans oppose the efforts of Barack Obama and Congressional Democrats to enact a massive overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system, one that would greatly expand the federal government’s role.

The fact is, our country is under a Leftist seige.  This is a huge powerplay.  A Revolution.  That's just how it is.  You're living through history.  In both the Soviet and the Nazi revolutions, there were opening years where things seemed normal, natural.  You know, those guys can't do that!  We'll change things!

But then Change took root, and people started going to prison.

Cicero and I take the position that to preserve a republic you nee a Republican Citizenry, i.e, one that puts individual and civic virtue before personal appetites.  We don't have that.  Haven't had that in 30 years.  30 years ago, the men and women who ran the shops in downtown Port Angeles had style.  Class.  They understood that private morality and public virtue determined the fate of this nation, America.  That's a big deal, you know: when you take pride in public virtue by nursing character, you're creating a safe environment for children, prosperity, and happiness.

How many of your children could understand the two sentences I just wrote?

That's your country, friends.

Newsflash for you "liberals": If virtue comes from the State, you may as well cut your throat now.  You're useless as a human being.

Is there room for optimism?

Yes, but not in my lifetime.

What I believe will happen is this:

1) The dollar will collapse;
2) America will either be brought under an international order or, more likely, a world war will break out over resources in the next 10-20 years; and
3) America will suffer a civil breakdown, in which the country breaks up into regional states.  America the superpower will be no more.

At some point in your children's, or grandchildren's, future, our spiritual heirs, American patriots, will establish a new republic.

Notwithstanding that the West and her anti-Communist enemies were right all along, Gerda Lerner is still a determined and passionate enemy of America and the West. Over the weekend Mr. Obama bowed to reality and admitted that little of substance will come of the climate-change summit in Copenhagen next month. For the last year the President has been promising a binding international carbon-regulation treaty a la the Kyoto Protocol, but instead negotiators from 192 countries now hope to reach a preliminary agreement that they'll sign such a treaty when they meet in Mexico City in 2010. No doubt.

What's So Wrong About Socialism?

Joe Herring encounters the same sort of dope I see a lot of: the hip young voter who has no idea how dangerous socialism is.  He thought the kid was joking when he said, "What's so wrong about socialism?"

Herring seems to think we can talk these guys out of it.  I'm not so sure.  Two paragraphs worth pondering:

Von Hayek accurately foretold the fate that would befall dissenters from the plan. They simply could not be allowed to get in the way. Opposition would soon be treated as subversion, with debate shriveling to non-existence under the glare of the state. Those who refused compliance would first be marginalized, then dehumanized, and finally (failing re-education) eliminated. Collectivism and individualism cannot long share the same bed. They are political oil and water, and neither can compromise its position without eventually succumbing to the other. The history of the twentieth century is littered with the remains of those who became "enemies of the state" for merely drawing attention to this flaw. As Von Hayek predicted, the socialist vision would not be achieved without bloodshed.

So this is the challenge we face. My young coworker had no frame of reference by which to judge the events unfolding around him. He had been presented with only the intentions of socialism, not the inevitable results. He had been given the whitewashed fantasy of the Left, who never saw a failure that couldn't be rationalized -- or better yet, blamed on others. Our job, then, is to teach the lessons of history to those who fail to see the danger. We have to provide that all-important perspective to a generation that has been denied it. We have to do this one at a time, conversation by conversation. Tell your friends the truth; don't assume they know it. Become the person your friends and family consult when the subject turns to politics.

Via Insty Liberal comes the latest shock: a White House policy to attrition off Republican employees.  My Dad used to talk about that.  He hated Roosevelt because my grandfather came home in 1933 -- in the middle of the Great Depression -- fired from his job because he didn't have his papers, i.e., proof of membership in the Democratic party.  Nice folks, those Democrats, and it's why I was raised Republican.  So, imagine my shock to see:

My earliest experiences with the Left date back to the Seventies.  Vietnam was still in motion -- Nixon and Kissinger were driving the North Vietnamese back to the table via 500-pounders.  The thing that's always struck me about the Left is that you can't deal with reality.  If you try to remember the murdered victims of communism, they almost invariably say, 'Well, communism (or socialism) is an idea that hasn't really been tried', or some variation thereof.  If you praise capitalism, they say, 'Look how many people capitalism has killed', without considering a) whether their argument is factual or b) whether the "solution" of state owned business corporations is really an answer.  Would you really want to live under a Red Chinese regime.  Really?  The end result: you keep having "conversations" about nothing.  You're looking at a bug-eyed dodo who has no more idea of how this world turns than a cow knows she's being fattened for a wedding.

Yes, David.  Most Americans are flinching at the idea of actually thinking.  It hurts their brains -- if they try at all -- so they pull back.

The Twilight of American Culture.  Take this blog.  One of the reasons why I blog is I made a decision years ago to not run for office.  If I ran for office, I would be pasted with all kinds of names -- courtesy of Warm Fuzzy Liberals who cannot truly distinguish between thought and ideology -- because they're ideological (and many don't really know that -- because it hurts to think).  I don't give them that satisfaction, but not out of fear.  It's because, for the moment, the average American would prefer to get a patty back and pablum via Oprah or Dr. Phil.   We live in a Tyranny of Kindness.

Dark?  Cynical?

Okay.  So it is.  But in a better informed, more vital America, I could serve my country without fear of folks going hysterical by merely . . . . discussing ideas and facts.  Couldn't I?  Is that such a far-fetched "rightwing" thing to say?

We watched the Media elect a president.  Those of us who read and write blogs know there's an elite in control that gets angry if we take different points of view from what is "required."  This isn't Communism, necessarily, and it isn't always "leftist."  It's a poweplay, homegrown in the Democratic Party of the Thirties, radical leftists of the Sixties, and astute Suits who understand how to close the game in their favor.  In fact, America has already ceded its sovereignty to international forces.  I believe at this stage, our bankruptcy and subjugation are done deals.  It's only a matter of months; maybe years.

N.I.C.E.  C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien saw what was coming.  Think of it: two men who dealt with rats and blood and mud in the goddamned trenches of World War I, who lived in actual dread of what might happen under Hitler . . . .

Global Economic Regime.  Saw perfectly well that the real threats to our tyranny would be corporations telling us N.I.C.E. things.  Not a free market system, mind you, but a fascist set up of police power plus banking power -- a stranglehold that can't be slipped.  They were old-fashioned conservatives, Lewis and Tolkien.  Like yours truly.  Believe me.  My kind can't run for office.  We're museum pieces.

The fact is I don't trust most of my fellow countrymen.   They're far more spoiled brat than American, and we're going to have to pay for that indulgence in some God-awful, self-generated Hell, while Muslims -- and Leftists, presumably -- cheer.

It's a madness we're talking about, not responsible politics.  This old Moose is depressed, but I'm accustomed to it: Irish genes and a good mind for history prepare you for the truth.

Get ready to sit out their nightmare.

How the Left Was Won.  Dr. Phil and former POW Shoshana Johnson both say JAG officer Tom Kenniff's questions about whether Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan was motivated by ideology is "a terrible innuendo" and "irresponsible" (Dr. Phil) and "dangerous" (Shoshana).  Note how Kenniff, the lawyer, is attempting to engage in genuine argument; Shoshona goes Warm Fuzzy Liberal by shouting down questions; and Dr. Phil is a snob who doesn't accept unacceptable questions.  In sum, as my friend DAS points out, more evidence that the West has gone AWOL intellectually.  We are not able to freely discuss things.  It is, in fact, "dangerous" to suggest Hasan was perhaps a Jihadist, as I found out yesterday: one of my prosecutor friends at their regular office meeting was asked to not put this incident in those terms.  He was silenced.

Cuba's state security service agents frequently operate out of uniform. ``We were almost there when we were intercepted by three men in a car with civilian license plates who ordered us to get in,'' she said. ``We refused. I didn't know if they were kidnappers. And the level of their violence went up.'' Sánchez said they were near the Calixto Garcia hospital in downtown Havana when she and Pardo were ``dragged toward the car. She was ``thrown head-first inside,'' where ``they applied judo or karate holds to us and the punches . . . kept raining down.''  Cuba's best-known blogger Yoani Sanchez said state security officials seized and assaulted her in an effort to block her participation in a march against violence.

In times like these, one should count on courage, individualism, and the will to fight for Liberty!
